Fulldome Films
Scroll down to find a full filmography. I’m proud to have some of the best producers in the world as regular clients. I was also a jury member at the 2024 Fulldome Festival Brno.
I offer fulldome film consultancy including scriptwriting, fulldome film development, and repair/recreation of scripts that have been directly translated into the English language.
Script Writing
In the past couple of years I have been lead script writer for two productions: Moonbase: The Next Step (Moonraker VFX, UK) and Forward! To The Moon (Fiske Planetarium, US). It was a great pleasure to work with these two very different teams to develop scripts for two very different films. If you have a vision for a fulldome film then I can help you clarify your objectives, plan a show structure, and then develop a script that can adapt to your needs as visual production progresses.
Moonbase: The Next Step won honorable mentions at both Jena and Brno Fulldome Festivals in 2023.
It was a pleasure to work with Jenny on MOONBASE: the next step. Her input has been integral in the success of the film and her script hits the right balance between storytelling and science education that is accessible to all age groups. Thank you Jenny. — Graham Watts, Director, Moonraker VFX
Thoughtful & engaging look at a potential near-future of people on the Moon. It is well-researched and feels very authentic, whilst also installing a sense of wonder at what might be to come. — Ed Cookson, UK
For Forward! To The Moon, the production of which was disrupted by Covid, I wrote the intial script which was then taken forward by the production team and further developed in response to the incredible live action footage they were able to capture.
FULLDOME FILM DEVELOPMENT
I am happy to be brought in at any stage of your production process to help with story development, educational message, fact checking, voice artists, and other issues. I find that producers always get me in earlier the second time.
Content: realistic educational objectives and breakdown of required concepts; introduction of new language; linking to educational standards; cultural issues.
Communication: describing something and teaching it are two very different things. Consideration of misconceptions, prior knowledge, vocabulary, language structures, and cognitive load.
Language: writing for clarity while matching the desired emotion/style. What is the relationship between narrator and audience? How do you want people to feel? Can your voice artist pronounce that punctuation?
Recording: does the voice artist sound like they are in the dome with us? Emphasis, rhythm and emotion to aid communication of concepts. Clarity of key words.
“NSC Creative has had the pleasure of working with Jenny on a number of projects, most recently for We are Stars. Jenny wrote the initial draft of the evolution section and re-worked much of the script. She commented on the storyboard and suggested some changes to the visuals which were carried through to the final show. She was committed, helpful and responsive, and the film was significantly improved by her contribution. We consider her an honorary member of the NSC Creative team and hope to work with her again in future.” — Paul Mowbray, Producer
English Translated Voice Tracks
Too many fulldome films suffer poor English translations that fail to communicate the intended emotion and meaning. It is a pleasure to help rework translated scripts to achieve the producer's original vision, emotional impact, and educational objectives. I can also help you find the perfect voice artist and direct them to ensure their intonation and emphasis are appropriate to communicate your film’s message.
Find out why translated scripts go wrong, and how I can help yours avoid this fate.
What my clients think:
“After having the French-to-English translation of our film 'Voyage of the Stars' done by a[n experienced] professional translator, I asked Jenny Shipway for a review … I must admit I was really impressed. … Whether it was the choice of words to be more suitable for the intended audience, the precise and accurate refinement of the pedagogical explanations, or the effort to create an "international" English version that works for both British and American audiences, and many other subtleties, each of them well-explained and well-argued... the work was incredible and the contribution undeniable. … Jenny's work was truly amazing, and I warmly thank her for her contribution to the film. I highly recommend her expertise; I would even say that her work is indispensable.” — Benjamin Cabut, Producer, Axilone Holding
“For me Jenny was a blessing. She really made a difference for the entire Explore show. After translating the show to English I couldn’t get rid of an impression that it is a translation. It made me worried, but then Jenny enthusiastically agreed to help and brought her passion to words, her clear mind and experience in science communication into our project. At the very last moment we re-wrote the entire text making it so much better than the original. I really enjoyed working with Jenny and highly recommend her to anybody who needs to write an English script.” — Maciej Ligowski, Producer/Director, Creative Planet
Educational Materials
I can also produce educational materials to accompany your show, linked to educational standards as required.
