Fulldome Festival Brno in Czechia is my favourite planetarium event of the year. This will be my fourth year since my first visit in 2019 (with gaps for Covid). It’s just the right size - not too big, not too small, and attracts a really nice mix of fulldome film creators from around the world. The event is professionally run, but with a quirky gentle humour and relaxed atmosphere. There is time to chat, but also lots (LOTS) of content. Time is used well.
This year I was honoured to be asked to be one of the three judges who decide the Best Show and Best Short awards. We will be watching all 38 films (15 hours of screentime!) over the festival’s three days before making our decision. I have made an optician’s appointment to get new glasses shortly before the festival to minimise eye strain!
The only film I can’t judge is the one I worked on as script consultant - Voyage of the Stars. And so if that makes our shortlist, it will be up to the other judges: Dario Tiverton, director of Fulldome Database and President of PlanIT; and Yuriy Gapon, filmmaker and CEO of UMA Vision. But considering I’ve had two or three films showing in other years, this is a good year to serve on the jury.
Looking forward very much to this event, with its great location, friends old and new, inevitable thunderstorms, cocktails, and many (MANY) hours of fulldome goodness. And it’ll be exciting to see Voyage of the Stars on the big screen. I’ll hope to see you there!
